Most people do not really give a lot of thought when it comes to buying nursery cribs. They think that all cribs are alike, and that any crib would do for their little one. However, with so many kinds of nursery cribs out there, there must be one that should suit your kid perfectly. Here is a list of commonly made mistakes by first-time parents when buying cribs for their babies.
1. Choosing one that suits the budget – and basically nothing else. Naturally, budget is important. However, safety should be the primary concern for buying a crib, and not the actual expense. There are also parents who like using (or shall we say, reusing) antique furniture or one that is passed down from generation to generation. That would indeed save a lot of money, but again, there should be some safety precautions taken. Try to see if the crib would hold the child’s weight, if the crib is standing solidly enough, and if there are possible corners or splinters that may cause the baby harm.
2. Choosing the one that seems the most fashionable. This might be okay, but as most fashion go, cribs like these usually go out of style fast. Most first-time parents forget the simple fact that infants tend to grow up; and the cute bassinet cribs that snugly fits the baby can be outgrown in less than 6 months. Try thinking of long-term use. A cot bed with removable sides may be too big for the baby now, but he or she will soon grow up to fit just right. A small bassinet bed may last no more than 1 to 2 years while a cot bed may last 5 to 7.
